GMI's two-day Wellbore Stability & Geomechanics course provides industry professionals with a foundation in the principles of in situ stress and rock mechanics and their applications in the petroleum industry. Course participants will be introduced to the basic principles of stress analysis, measurement and determination of geomechanical properties relevant to wellbore stability predictions, and the software tools and problem-solving techniques that have been used by GMI in consulting projects worldwide. Principles will be illustrated with applications from studies carried out in oil and gas fields around the world.

Course Topics:

  • The Tectonic Stress Field
  • Basic Constitutive Laws Rock Failure
  • Stress Concentrations around Vertical and Inclined Wells
  • Building a Geomechanical Model
  • Minimizing Wellbore Instability during Drilling and Production
  • Fracture Gradient Prediction

Time permitting:

  • Sand Production Prediction
  • Casing Failure Prediction
